What is Xenical ?

Xenical is an anti-obesity agent.
It does not suppress your appetite. It is a potent, specific and long-acting inhibitor of gastrointestinallipases. The inactivated enzyme is thus unavailable to hydrolyse dietary fat, and this allows about 30% of the fat eaten in the meal to pass through the gut undigested.
Your body therefore, cannot use this dietary fat as a source of energy and convert it to fat tissue.

This will help you reduce your weight.

XENICAL is for people who are considerably overweight
(at least 30 lbs, depending on height or have a BMI of 30 or greater).

XENICAL is also for people who are overweight
(at least 20 lbs, depending on height or have a BMI of 27 or greater) and also have other risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease or diabetes.

XENICAL should be taken with a reduced-calorie diet containing no more than 30% of calories from fat.

Precautions for use

Inform your doctor before starting treatment with Xenical :
if you:

  • suffer from chronic malabsorption syndrome
  • are allergic to other medicines, foods or dyes
  • are taking other medicines, including those you have obtained without a prescription.

Weight loss may also affect the dose of medication taken for other conditions
(e.g. high cholesterol or diabetes).
Be sure to discuss these and other drugs you may be taking with your doctor.
Losing weight may mean you need adjustments to the dose of these medications.

To gain the maximum benefit from Xenical you should follow the nutrition program recommended to you by your doctor. As with any weight-control program, over-consumption of fat and calories may negate any weight loss effect.
This medicine can cause harmless changes in your bowel habits, such as fatty or oily'stools, due to the elimination of undigested fat in your faeces. The possibility of this happening may increase if Xenical is taken with a diet high in fat.

In addition your daily intake of fat should be distributed evenly over three main meals because if Xenical is taken with a meal very high in fat, the possibility of gastrointestinal effects may increase.

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor,
otherwise you will not fully benefit from Xenical.
